In the months following the Champion’s Cup victory over the Edmonton Rush, the members of the Rochester Knighthawks each had a day with the Cup. In Late October, Dylan Evans brought the trophy to his hometown of Brampton, Ontario. The defenseman, now entering his third year in the National Lacrosse League, could not wait to hang out with his new hardware.
“I was super excited to get my hands back on the Cup, and get to bring it to Brampton,” said Evans. I got some pretty funny looks from the neighbors pulling this massive cup out of the back of my truck,” said Evans.
His neighbors weren’t completely surprised that Evans was hauling around the massive Cup. The day after the title game, his mother had decorated their front lawn with the life-sized player poster of her son and Knighthawks-colored teal and purple balloons.
“It was hilarious everyone was very excited, so the neighbors had known we won for a while,” said Evans.
Feeling much like a celebrity, the former Brampton Excelsior was able to show off his hard-earned trophy.
“I brought the cup home first and got to share it around with lots of friends, family, and supporters of lacrosse in Brampton,” said Evans.
One of those businesses where Evans had to bring the Champion’s Cup was Al’s Barber Shop, located at 247 Queen Street West. Owner Robert Rutledge has been a longtime supporter of Brampton lacrosse and Evans. Rutledge, a former Toronto Rock fan, even stated he “made the switch to the Knighthawks because of him.”
“I’m one of his biggest fans,” said Rutledge. “I adore that kid because he’s a hard worker and he has no ego.”
“He is the one responsible for the goofy haircuts I had during playoffs that just kept getting weirder the further we got,” said Evans.
