(September 4, 2012)... Rochester Knighthawks goalie Jake Henhawk backstopped the St. Catharines Saints to their best finish ever at the President’s Cup, leading his team to a silver medal. St. Catharines fell just short in the Championship Game Sunday to the St. Regis Braves, 13-9, in Spruce Grove, Alberta.

“Spruce Grove was a fun place, but I wish the ending was better. We had a great group of guys in St. Catharines,” said Henhawk, who earned Second Team All-Star honors. “Last year we won bronze, this year silver, and hopefully next year will be gold.”
It was the second league Championship Game in just over three months for the Six Nations product. Henhawk won the Champion's Cup with the Knighthawks on May 19th. At the President’s Cup title game, he was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face in the crowd at Grant Fuhr Arena.
“The Rochester Knighthawks and Curt Styres saved the day for the Saints to even attend this year’s Presidents Cup,” he said. “It felt great to see Curt, Jeremy (Jamieson) and Curt’s mom at the final game.”
In the Gold Medal Game, the Saints opened the game with a 5-4 after one period, but were outscored 7-1 in the second as the Braves defended their Senior “B” Championship.
The Saints advanced to the game after earning a 10-7 victory over Kahnawake Saturday. Behind the solid goaltending of Henhawk, St. Catharines finished with a 5-1 record in the round-robin portion of the seven-team playoffs. He opened the Senior “B” President’s Cup Playoffs with an impressive 13-6 victory over the Rocky View Knights en route to Game MVP honors. He also earned victories against Onondaga, Tri City, Kahnawake and Spruce Grove. His only loss was a 7-6 thriller to St. Regis.
Henhawk helped St. Catharines defend its Ontario Championship this summer and earn a return trip to the President’s Cup. Last year, he guided the Saints to a bronze medal, while earning First Team All-Star honors and the Travis Solomon Outstanding Goaltender Award. He returned to the Saints this June after winning his first Champion’s Cup with the Knighthawks, following a career season in which he registered a personal-best 11.18 goals-against average.
