STEWART WINS ON ‘HOME TRACK’ AGAIN
08/01/2012 - 2:38pm

(August 1, 2012)… With Tony Stewart winning at Ohsweken Speedway with such regularity, fellow racer and track co-owner Glenn Styres might have to build an addition onto his home, which stands less than 100 yards away from the second turn.

On Tuesday night, in front of a record crowd, Stewart captured the 30-lap Arrow Express Six Nations Showdown A-Main after starting on the pole. The victory was his third career World of Outlaws win and third straight in three starts at Ohsweken Speedway. On Monday, he won the Dash for Cash, holding off Styres in the final laps.

“Last year we won the thing running through the middle. Tonight, we were really good right at the top edge of the race track. Last night, we were in the middle of that race. There was no system between the two races,” said Stewart from the Winner’s Circle. “It’s just a neat little race track. It’s a lot of fun and you can race all over. It’s an honor to just stand here with this group of guys. To win with the World of Outlaws is awesome.”

NASCAR drivers better watch out for Stewart, who used the victory at Ohsweken last year to rally to his third NASCAR Sprint Cup title. The visit to the speedway near Six Nations was the second straight year the Columbus, Ind. native raced the 3/8 dirt track. Stewart’s appearances at Ohsweken are a huge boost for the speedway. Styres, a six-time “Promoter of the Year" and four-time Southern Ontario Sprints Champion, was excited to see “Smoke” earn the win Monday.

“Anytime Tony Stewart wins, it’s going to be on national TV all across America and Canada. It’s really going to help us out a lot,” said Styres.

Stewart was the guest of Glenn and Curt Styres. Curt, who also raced in the two-day event, serves as the owner and general manager of the Rochester Knighthawks. Earlier this year, the Knighthawks captured the 2012 National Lacrosse League title. Before Tuesday evenings featured races, the Knighthawks players, along with Curt Styres, presented Stewart with a game-worn personalized No. 14 jersey and a Championship hat. Knighthawks forward Cody Jamieson was among the presenters who met Stewart.

“It felt pretty cool. You see him on TV and in the papers, and he was here in Six Nations,” said Jamieson, the 2012 Championship Game MVP. “It was another highlight of mine since winning the Championship.”
