(July 2, 2012)… Two days before his return to Ohsweken Speedway, Sprint Car driver Glenn Styres made a bold prediction about the remainder of his racing season. (Photo by By Dale Calnan/www.ImageFactor.ca)
“We have some big wins coming. We are the fastest car out of the box everywhere we go,” said Styres on June 27th. “We have stumbled upon something and we are in contention every race, which is a night and day difference from last year.”
Two days after making the statement he backed it up with his second straight victory on his home track of Ohsweken Speedway. Styres captured his second Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car win of 2012 on Friday. His previous win was on May 25th as Styres earned his fourth career win in a season-opening Sprint Car event at Ohsweken. He currently leads the Corr/Pak Sprints Standings with 380 points.
On Friday, Styres overtook Dave Dykstra after lap 6 to grab the lead in the Sprint Car A-Feature. He would never relinquish the top spot as Jim Huppunen, Tom Huppunen, Chris Steele, and Travis Cunningham finished in the Nos. 2-5 positions. Styres also claimed his heat in the 30-car field. Styres, known as the “Ohsweken Flyer,” now has 30 Sprint Car victories to go along with four Southern Ontario Sprints Championships. He co-owns Ohsweken Speedway with his brother Curt, who owns the 2012 World Champion Rochester Knighthawks and the MLL’s Hamilton Nationals.
On Friday, July 6th, the Knighthawks will present the “Sunshine Foundation and Autograph Night.” The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers are all part of round 6 of Friday Night Thunder, plus another visit by the Modified Lite Stars International Championship Tour. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with racing starting at 7:45 p.m.
More excitement will return to Ohsweken Speedway on July 30th and 31st with the World of Outlaws and the Six Nations Showdown. Tony Stewart, the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, will participate in a Meet and Greet Monday night before hitting the track the following evening in the CORR/Pak 360 sprint program. He will defend his 2011 Six Nations Showdown victory, which was his first World of Outlaw Sprint Car win. To order your tickets, please visit www.OhswekenSpeedway.com or call 1-888-720-RACE.
