(June 8, 2012)… Fans craving to extend the 2012 Championship season can watch some of the stars of the Rochester Knighthawks Saturday on Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Channel 26). Cody Jamieson, Joe Walters, Stephen Keogh and Joel White will take their games outdoors at 7:00 p.m. live from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
The Hamilton Nationals will host the Rochester Rattlers on Saturday, June 9th in Major League Lacrosse action. Jamieson, Walters and Keogh are members of the Nationals, while Joel White plays for the Rattlers. The quartet of Knighthawks defeated the Edmonton Rush 9-6 on May 19th.
Last week, Walters was named as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week, as his return to the outdoor game fueled the Nationals to an 18-17 victory over the Charlotte Hounds on June 2nd. The win improved Hamilton to 1-3 on the season.
“We had a great team win, and the guys certainly helped me out tonight,” said Walters. “I was impressed to see the team finally come together. I hope this is the first of many wins to come.”
Making his season debut, he scored four goals and added four assists Saturday night. Walters tallied five of his game-high eight points in the second half as the Nationals snapped their season-opening three-game losing streak. His eight points tied a team single-game record and his final goal moved him into first place on the team's all-time goal-scoring list with 45. Keogh also had an impressive debut, scoring a career-high four goals.
White also earned a victory in his first game back in the MLL. The defensive midfielder collected one assist and had a team-high seven ground balls in Rochester’s 17-16 overtime win over the defending champion Boston Cannons on June 1st. Rochester evened its record at 2-2 with the victory.
On Saturday, Jamieson will make his 2012 MLL debut for the Nationals after a three-week layoff. Previously, he led the Knighthawks with four goals and four assists to earn Championship Game MVP honors. Jamieson was a Second Team All-Pro this season after leading Rochester in goals (36), assists (49) and points (85). With Jamieson back, Hamilton finally has the last piece of its offense back from the 2011 team that reached the MLL Finals.
“We have a little momentum now,” said Nationals Head Coach Regy Thorpe after the team’s first win. “We got most of our players back and we are looking forward to a better game this week.”
