NLL Announces Draft and Combine Dates Ahead of 2018 Season

16draft.jpg(July 21, 2017)… For only the second time in 24 years, the Rochester Knighthawks will make three selections in the first round of the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. The Knighthawks own the second, fifth and sixth overall picks in the draft, which will be held on Monday, Sept. 18 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ontario.

“It’s going to be another deep draft this year,” said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. “The players who are available are quality ball players who have the possibility of being in our lineup. They will make us better and quicker right off the bat.”

The Knighthawks have assembled a team of coaches, executives and scouts that are currently evaluating talent at the junior, senior and NCAA levels. One of those front office professionals is Stuart Brown – who works in both lacrosse operations and scouting.

“We’re certainly excited that we are picking three times in the first round,” said Brown. “It is an interesting draft in that it is deep, but balanced as well. It depends what we identify as our needs. Whether you are looking for transition players, defense or offense, there are high-end, top-level players at each position.”

The only other time in team history that the Knighthawks had three picks in the first round was in 2010. In that draft, Rochester selected Cody Jamieson first overall before picking Jarrett Davis (fifth) and Ryan McClelland (10th).

The draft will follow the NLL Combine, which is scheduled to take place from Sept. 16-17 at the TRAC. At the combine, prospective players will have an opportunity to showcase their talent and skill in a practice setting through structured games – testing their endurance, reaction time, strength, agility and speed on the field. Additionally, they will take part in a series of interviews with NLL general managers and coaches. The combine is open to eligible draftees and non-registered free agents who can apply to register at this link.
