Keogh 2011 Draft.jpg(Toronto, September 21)… For the third straight season, the Rochester Knighthawks selected a Syracuse Orange lacrosse player with their first pick in the first round. Stephen Keogh joined the likes of Sid Smith and Cody Jamieson today, as the Knighthawks drafted the forward second overall in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

“I hope I can do everything I can to help this team win,” said Keogh. “I am not a selfish player. I will take on any role the team wants me to.”

The Knighthawks have seven more selections in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, which kicked off at 7:00 p.m. tonight with the selection of New Westminster’s Kevin Crowley first overall by the Philadelphia Wings. Fans can watch the draft live from Toronto Don Valley Hotel on The NLL Network at

Keogh completed his four-year career at Syracuse in 2011 as a two-time NCAA champion (2008 and 2009). The Toronto native received Second Team All-American honors in 2011 after earning honorable mention status the past two years. The 2011 BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year led the Orange in goals (33) and tied for the team lead in points (41). He ended his career ninth in Syracuse history with 133 goals. He took his field game to the professional level in 2011 and played for a Hamilton Nationals team that advanced to the Major League Lacrosse Finals.

This summer, he continued to play indoor lacrosse at the Senior “A” level with the Six Nations Chiefs of Major Series Lacrosse. With the Chiefs, Keogh scored 19 goals and added 18 assists in just 12 games. In the postseason, Keogh was deadlier collecting 13 goals and five assists in seven games. In his junior career, he led the Orangeville Northmen to the Minto Cup Championship in 2008, as he claimed tournament MVP honors.

The Knighthawks will open their 18th season on Saturday, January 14th in Philadelphia against the East Division Wings. The Knighthawks will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 21st against the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. This season, the BCA will welcome its millionth fan to watch the Knighthawks continue their legacy as one of Rochester’s foremost professional sports franchises.
