FAN FRIDAY WITH MIKE MOSSDec 23, 2016
(December 23, 2016)… Mike Moss picked the right time to finally get Knighthawks season tickets. After supporting the team since 1999, Moss purchased season seats for the 2012 season. Because of that decision, he experienced one of the greatest moments in his life – watching the Knighthawks win the 2012 Champion’s Cup.
That was the first of a league-record three straight Cups. Moss was there for every home game, and some road games, to cheer for the Knighthawks. This week, we spotlight a true diehard fan, Mike Moss.
What first brought you to a Knighthawks game?
At first, I would go because my dad brought home tickets. It later became an event that worked with my schedule. That’s when I got hooked.
What is your favorite part of the game(s)? Do you have any interesting rituals? Any good luck routines?
My favorite part of the games is the fast-paced, hard-hitting action. Every game my wife, brother, friends and I meet at the Civic Center Garage hours before the game to tailgate. We find the same parking spots and sometimes pull out lawn chairs and enjoy each other's company while snacking on food and drinks. Then we go to happy hour before making our way to our seats to cheer on the boys. We participate in all the introduction chants by informing the opposing team how much they suck. Also, I make sure to dance the “Cotton-Eyed Joe” like my life depended on it because I feel like if that song is played and I dance, we win.
Favorite memory as a fan:
2012 Champion’s Cup Final. It was our first year as season ticket holders and my wife (girlfriend at the time), my brother and his girlfriend, and my best friend made our way to the game to see the first of three straight Champion’s Cup wins. The energy was electric! It was the first world championship we had ever seen in person. I think I literally felt the barn shake. The feeling when the final horn sounded, awarding us the Champion’s Cup, was overwhelming and addicting. (It was such a rush) that I have had to be there for every game since.
Additional information you would like us to know:
Myself, my brother, Kyle; and best friend Jeff Dangler have been to every game home game since the beginning of the 2012 season. It has become a gathering place for family and friends of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. It is our most favorite time of the year because it brings us together. We not only get to see amazing professional lacrosse, but get to spend time with the people that mean the most to us. The fan base is also so fantastic. We have made so many friends in all corners of Hawks Nation, including players. We have begun travelling with them, making trips to Buffalo and New England. We have plans for Toronto in the future as well as eventually making it to every away market possible. THANK YOU to the Knighthawks organization for making our experience so great!
